A Teflon-Free Waffle Iron is a must
We all know the dangers of using teflon cooking appliances, which may contain PFOA’s and/or PTFE’s, persistent contaminants that accumulates in the body. Over time, this can cause liver problems, developmental problems in kids, and certain types of cancers, to name a few.
So, it’s best to use a waffle iron that is free from PTFE’s and PFOA’se. Cast Iron waffle irons, like this one, can be used on the stovetop or grill. They can take a bit of time to get used to and not great if you have a glass cooktop(like we do!) We like
Splurge worthy: Greenpan makes a fantastic one, if you know you will making a ton of chaffles.
Show the love you put into your cooking. This heart shaped one is very affordable and claims to be PFOA and PTFE free.

This Basic Chaffle Recipe is so customizable
You can boost the nutrition with superfoods. Add a few tablespoons of chia seeds, hemps seeds or ground flax seeds. Sprinkle with a bit of nutritional yeast.
Spices can be added to the mix, like garlic, basil, etc. Different cheeses, or a mix of a few, can add a zingy taste, as well.
The chaffles, themselves, have a variety of uses, too! Chaffles can double as bread, housing lettuce, meat and cheese. Wrap them up like tacos with meat, salsa and your favorite toppings. Add cheese and pepperoni on top and heat quickly in the oven or on the grill for a low carb pizza.
Chaffles make a great addition to a lunch box or can be eaten as an afternoon snack, too!

Method
- Mix all ingredients until blended.
- Pour into hot waffle iron, taking care to get cheese which may have settled to the bottom of the mixing bowl.
- Cook until waffle is slightly brown and crispy. The more cheese, the browner and crispier it will be. Less cheese makes for a lighter fluffier chaffle – your choice.
- Serve hot. Place cool chaffles in fridge or freezer for later.
